The crew and van used for popcorn ceiling removal in Austin, TX

Popcorn Ceiling Removal Austin TX has been taking textured ceilings off Austin houses since 2014. Four people, two vans, one trade. Before that, our lead finisher spent eleven years hanging and finishing drywall for production builders across Williamson County, which is the single most useful thing about this crew: he has seen exactly how the ceilings we scrape were built, because he built several thousand of them.

What we do and what we hand off

We scrape, sample, repair, skim, retexture, prime and paint ceilings. We do walls at the same time when it makes sense. We do not do asbestos abatement, we do not do roofing, and we do not do general remodelling, which means we cannot bundle your ceiling into a kitchen job and we would rather tell you that on the phone.

If a sample comes back positive, the removal goes to a contractor licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Every popcorn ceiling company in this city will tell you they handle asbestos. Ask them who holds the licence.

The bigger names you are probably also calling

Most people getting quotes in Austin are also talking to The Patch Boys, one of the painting franchises like That 1 Painter, or a general remodeller who does ceilings among twenty other things. Those are all reasonable options and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

The difference is narrow and it is real. A franchise crew doing ceilings this week was doing something else last week. Ours has done nothing else for twelve years, so the awkward parts, the tray corners, the stairwell staging, the vaulted room with a wall of west-facing glass, are ordinary rather than interesting.

Everything else we get asked for

Beyond the pages on this site: ceiling fan and fixture removal and refit, crown moulding taken off and reinstalled for a drywall overlay, single-room texture matching after a plumbing repair, garage and utility ceiling work, and finishing on ceilings that somebody else scraped and then ran out of enthusiasm for. That last one is more common than you would think and there is no judgement in it.

There are also many more cities we cover than have their own page, and the service areas hub lists all of them.

Why I started this

I started this in 2014 after nine years finishing drywall for builders out in Williamson County, mostly because I was tired of watching ceilings get sprayed with texture to hide a level 3 finish and then watching the same houses come back to be fixed fifteen years later. My cousin Tavo came in the first year and Del and Hector after that. We have stayed at four people on purpose, which costs us work in spring when everybody wants their house done at once, and means I have personally been in nearly every house we have ever quoted. The dented bumper on the white van was a scaffold tower and a low garage in Crestview, since you asked.

Fast, tidy, and the ceiling looks like it was always flat. No notes.

They rescheduled on me twice, which was frustrating because I had taken a day off work for the first one. To be fair I got a call both times rather than being left waiting, and the second time they knocked something off for the trouble without me asking. The actual work was good. They sprayed a sample board and hung it in the room and I made them redo it because the first one was too heavy, and there was no argument about it at all. Ceiling matches the hallway now which is what I wanted. Would use again, would also confirm the date twice.

I had a contractor tell me my 2011 house needed asbestos testing before he would touch the ceiling. Called these guys for a second quote and the first thing on the phone was that a house that age cannot have it and I should not pay for the test. That is how I ended up hiring them. Job was two days, no drama.
